Emergency Fund & Zakat:
Yes, Zakat is due on emergency savings
Why?
- It's zakatable wealth in your possession
- Not considered "immediate need"
- Part of your total assets
Calculation:
Emergency fund + other savings = Total
If > Nisab → Pay 2.5%
After paying Zakat:
You still have 97.5% for emergencies!
Exception:
If emergency fund is specifically for paying debts due this year, some scholars allow deduction.
